SnowRanger Frequently Asked Questions
- Which GPS models does SnowRanger work on?
- You sent me the wrong sized memory card!
We ship our memory card packages as a microSD card with a larger SD adapter sleeve, usually with the
microSD inside the adapter to protect it during shipping. Slide out the microSD card from the end of the
adapter if your GPS uses the smaller card.
- Will SnowRanger give me directions?
Yes, SnowRanger will now guide you along the lifts and runs (pistes) that get you to
a chosen destination.

- Should I buy SnowRanger as a download, on memory card or on CD-ROM?
SnowRanger most often ships on memory card. This offers instant "plug and play" installation on nearly
all recent Garmin GPS models. However if you would also like to view the maps on your PC using
Garmin's MapSource software, or if your Garmin GPS does not have a memory card slot, you should choose
the CD-ROM option. If you are familiar with copying files to your GPS you can opt for the instant
download option.

- Will SnowRanger maps work on the new Garmin® nüvifone?
SnowRanger GPS ski resort maps work on all other nüvi models, so we do
not expect any issues, though it is too early to be certain.
- How do I unlock my SnowRanger CD-ROM?
When SnowRanger is purchased on CD-ROM, the maps are locked until you enter an unlock code that
corresponds to the "Unit ID" of your GPS. This Unlock Code can be obtained right after you
purchase the map, or when you install and run the Garmin MapSource software that the CD contains.
All our CD-ROMs come with two unlock codes so that you can use your maps with up to two personal GPSes.

- Can we buy a GPS here too?
Yes! For skiers and snowboarders who want to use SnowRanger maps
but don't have a GPS yet, we're offering a range of GPSes that
have been specially selected for the slopes from just $199.99!
- Can I use SnowRanger on my Apple Mac?
Our CD-ROM option includes Garmin's MapSource software for Windows only. However there is now a
procedure from Garmin to put SnowRanger onto your Mac.
This is not a factor if you have a Garmin GPS model that has an SD or microSD memory card slot (nearly all
recent models do) and select the corresponding memory card option when you purchase SnowRanger.

- Can I use SnowRanger maps on my GPS at the same time as
Topo, City Navigator or other Garmin MapSource® maps that I have bought?
Yes, but you should choose the MapSource CD-ROM option.
Using MapSource, you can mix and match SnowRanger and other maps on your GPS.
- My Garmin street maps are hiding my SnowRanger maps
If your GPS has both street maps and SnowRanger maps on it, the combination may be hard to read,
or the streets maps might hide SnowRanger altogether. Also if you are using our
on-mountain turn-by-turn directions the GPS might try
to route you along roads rather than lifts and runs/pistes!
To remedy this you can temporarily hide
the street maps by going into the Map Setup page on your GPS (usually
'Setup' when you are looking at a map, or 'Map' when you are on the main
Setup page), and choosing the 'i' with a circle around it to view Map Info.
This will list the map tiles that you have loaded onto the GPS, and
you can remove the checkmark next to each of the street map tiles that you
need to hide. These may be called "enabled" and "disabled" on some models.
- Can I use SnowRanger maps with Magellan VantagePoint and MapSend®?
Yes, the Magellan version of SnowRanger installs into VantagePoint
and MapSend
allowing you to view the map data on your PC and manage all the maps
on your Magellan GPS.
- I downloaded SnowRanger for Magellan but cannot see how to put it onto my CrossoverGPS
Magellan VantagePoint and MapSend are not able to
write maps to a CrossoverGPS over its USB cable. You will need an SD card reader/writer
on your PC, and use VantagePoint or MapSend to
copy your downloaded maps onto a blank SD card to put into the GPS.
- When I upload tracks from my Garmin to your website I do not see speed or time information
For some reason, when you use the "Save" function on a Garmin GPS to save
the current ("active") track to a named track it discards the time-stamp
information on each point in the named track. The Mountain Dynamics track
upload tool then cannot show speed or
time information for the tracks. If you want to see this information
then always upload the active track from your GPS, not saved tracks. You can save
each day's skiing/snowboarding to a separate track on the GPS, just make
sure you don't "clear" the active track before you've had a chance to
upload it. If your track covers multiple days our tool will automatically
separate it out into separate activities.
