Mountain Dynamics launches SnowRanger™ Europe and North America 2009/10
Turn-by-turn directions guide the skier across the mountains
Tucson Arizona, November 30th 2009: Mountain Dynamics Inc., the world’s leading developer of GPS maps and services for winter sports, has announced that its SnowRanger GPS ski resort trail maps now offers spoken, turn-by-turn directions while skiing, and has introduced a new CD-ROM version for planning and reliving ski trips on a PC.
"Skiers and snowboarders are already accustomed to getting directions from their car’s satellite navigation system as they drive," said Marcus Needham, President and CEO of Mountain Dynamics. "Now they can get the same assistance while they ski and ride!"
Available for nearly all Garmin® GPS models, the new routing feature tells you which ski lifts to take and which runs/pistes to follow to get to a chosen destination. This can be essential, time saving information at large resorts such as Whistler Blackcomb, or in the large interlinked complexes in the Alps. The directions are shown on the screen of the GPS, and are also given as spoken prompts on models such as Garmin’s nüvi® series.
"You can be skiing along with an earpiece whispering directions to you," continues Needham, "focusing on your turns while always knowing where you are and where you are going."
SnowRanger Europe and North America are now also available on a CD-ROM together with Garmin’s powerful MapSource® software. This lets you view the maps on the big screen of a Windows® PC and plan your skiing ahead of time, and includes detailed elevation data so that you can see the vertical profile of a possible route.
"No more walking along flat cat-tracks!" adds Needham.
SnowRanger Europe includes detailed piste maps of 430 top resorts in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, and SnowRanger North America includes over 85 top resorts in the USA and Canada. SnowRanger maps are compatible with almost all current and recent Garmin and Magellan® GPS models, including Garmin’s nüvi personal navigators and their breakthrough Oregon and Dakota touchscreen handhelds. As well as the new CD-ROM version, SnowRanger continues to be available on "plug and play" memory cards.
