SportsDo Bring SnowRanger to Cell Phones
Mountain Dynamics has been working over the past few months on its first licensing deal for its SnowRanger ski resort trail map data. SportsDo unveiled the Ski Resort Location Packs for its SportsDo V2.1 software at the London Metro Ski Show on Oct 18th 2006. Each Location Pack puts a comprehensive set of resort-specific "points of interest" onto the skier or snowboarder's cell phone. Using the capabilities of the mobile phone, the SportsDo software can transmit the skier's location in real time, allowing his/her friends to either find him/her at the mountain, or follow his/her progress around the resort. With the mapping data in the Location Packs this location information can be labeled with whatever lift, trail, or other locations they are near to. During the day SportsDo displays the skier's speed, distance, vertical feet, and other statistics, and at the end of the day the GPS data can be uploaded to the SportsDo website, where the user can view, analyze, and share the record of their day. The software will run on a wide variety of phones, both with a built-in GPSes and with inexpensive separate Bluetooth GPS receivers. A licensing agreement such as this allows us to focus on mapping and publishing trail maps for Magellan� and Garmin� GPSes, while SportsDo push our technology and data into the burgeoning cellular phone market.
