| SnowRanger on The Gadget Show |
Channel Five TV's The Gadget Show (UK) gave SnowRanger Europe GPS piste maps a good workout in its December 22nd winter sports show.
The team put SnowRanger, running on a standard Garmin Oregon GPS, up against the Satski dedicated ski GPS unit in a test of navigating up and down the Tiefenbach Glacier at Soelden (Sölden), Austria.
The Satski completed the test slightly quicker, but the testers were eager to point out that the Satski system is considerably more expensive than SnowRanger, and is a fixed purpose unit, while SnowRanger runs on almost all Garmin and Magellan GPSes, including the hugely popular Garmin nüvi series. Many skiers already own a GPS, and if they don't then they want to buy a general purpose outdoors GPS or car sat-nav for year-round activities.
They didn't mention some key features of SnowRanger, such as it being able to give you a plethora of speed, distance, and elevation stats as you ski, and being able to upload all your data at the end of the day to the Snow Days GPS stats and tracks service, to view, and share your adventures season-long.
