Oops I'm Late!
The wave of applications for GPS-enabled cell phones is only just starting. The number of cell phones in the US that support GPS is larger than many people think, since most recent phones from Verizon and Sprint include GPS capability in their CDMA chip sets. Software to take advantage of this platform--and its unique combination of location awareness and communication--is really in its infancy, and ripe for innovation.

One example of this is , which uses information from the address book and calendar on your phone, together with a knowledge of your current position and the time, to automatically send a "sorry, I am running late, will be there at such-and-such a time" sort of message to the people you are supposed to be meeting with.

I don't think this particular application will necessarily be a hit, but it shows what sort of things can be done.
