More Faux-GPS: Kindle and iPhone
Along the lines of my recent on Google Maps Mobile's ability to estimate your position without using GPS, has two recent stories about what it calls "Faux GPS".

Firstly, the e-book reader has a variety of available if you hack into the underlying operating system. These include being able to pull up and get a fairly good position estimate using the Kindle's built in CDMA cellular modem.

Secondly, they are carrying a that an upcoming firmware update for the iPhone will allow its Google Maps app to triangulate an estimated position from nearby cellular towers.
