| Mac version of SnowRanger? |
Garmin's recent announcement of broad support for Apple Mac OS- X in their software line has brought questions as to whether SnowRanger will ever be Mac-compatible.
Strictly speaking, SnowRanger runs on the GPS and does not need a computer in operate, but it does need to be installed on the GPS USING a computer. The software that we use to do this download directly is only available for Windows PCs and I do not anticipate any change in that situation.
However our recent addition of MapSource compatibility does open up new possibilities. When Garmin ship a Mac version of MapSource we ought to be able to make our SnowRanger maps available through it, though we will have to see how things develop with that. Garmin have said that this won't be available until towards the end of 2006, but hopefully this is something we'll be able to offer near the beginning of the 2006-07 ski season. Like I said though, I have limited information at this time as to how this will play out.
The SnowRanger Uplink is likely to be only available for Windows PCs in the foreseeable future. However we now support the standard GPX file format for GPS data, so you can upload, share, and analyze your ski tracks from Macs, Linux PCs, and any other sort of computer that has GPS software for that format.
